Albion Eprise Cheek Blossom

Eprise is one of the two point makeup lines under Albion. I have none of Albion's makeup products, but have been tempted by its simple, understated and cute packaging style.

Cheek Blossom from Eprise's summer 2011 makeup collection caught my eye with its lovely range of colors in pink and orange tones. I love its cute packaging, but not over-the-top cuteness. The colors of these blushers look very fresh and summery!

Nars Blush in Douceur

Douceur, in French it means sweetness and softness, is the name of one of the beautiful Nars blushes! As a matter of fact, douceur is the perfect word to describe this soft dusty brown-pink blush.

Nars Blush

It was first released as a limited-edition item from Nars fall 2010 makeup collection. It has quickly gained positive reviews and has become very popular. It's now part of Nars' permanent lineup.

I like my Nars Blush in Orgasm, which is a nice peachy pink with subtle shimmer. I love the pigmentation, color payoff and how it brings out the healthy-looking skin with a flush of color when my face is more tanned in the summer.

Nars Blush in Douceur

However, as my face returns to fair skin tone in winter, I need a cheek color that is light-pigmented and more soft-toned. Douceur is the shade that meets the requirements.

Nars Blush in Douceur is sheer-pigmented, and the color can be slowly built up to light-to-medium intensity for my fair skin tone. It gives a muted, matte and dusty finish with soft brown pink hues, which doesn't look overly pink, too cool or too warm on my cheeks.

Nars Blush in Douceur

One of the reasons that I love about this blush is the versatility of this shade. For people with pale to light skin tones, it is definitely a year-round shade for nearly all occasions when you need to tone down for a natural day look or to build up for a dramatic night look.

Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact

Usually, I am not a big fan of pink blushes, which I think it makes me look like having an alcohol flush reaction (a.k.a Asian glow.) I prefer bronzers or neutral-toned blushes to create a natural-looking effect for my fair complexion. However, Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact (in #12 Candy Orange) that I bought not long ago has made me fall in love with a touch of pink blush once again.

#12 Candy Orange (in peachy pink variation) is one of the two blush palettes from Jill Stuart's spring 2010 makeup collection. The other one is #11 Rose Fairy (in pink variation). #12 Candy Orange is my first Mix Blush Compact, and immediately became my one of my favorite blushes.

Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact #12 Candy Orange

Packaging

Mix Blush Compact is one of Jill Stuart's top-selling ranges since the blush range was launched in fall 2007. Its various pink-based colors, ultra princessy and dreamy vintage packaging are a winning recipe.

I keep most of my makeup items in containers and only take out the items I need to use when I do makeup. But Mix Blush Compact sits beautifully on my vanity table. It is the perfect item to decorate my vanity.

The retractable brush with dense goat hair feels soft on the skin. It also comes with a detachable chain that is attached to the palette. Inside the palette is a mirror that is big enough for quick touch-ups.

Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact #12 Candy Orange

Color

Top left: off-white pink with subtle sheen
Top right: golden orange with subtle shimmer
Bottom left: cherry pink with subtle shimmer
Bottom right: peachy coral with subtle shimmer

Shimmer & Pigment
Though the colors look bright and intense in the pans, they go on light and sheer. The shimmer appears rather subtle and demure.

The off-white pink is the sheerest shade, and the golden orange is the second lightest shade among the four colors. The bright cherry pink and peachy coral are more pigmented, but they are still on the light side compared to the blushers from Western brands.

Texture
The power is blendable, buildable, and has a refined and silky smooth texture. It is easy to pick up the colors with the brush.

Finish
#12 Candy Orange is a versatile palette. While the off-white pink is great for highlighting, the golden orange provides a soft shading/contouring effect. The subtle shimmer gives a soft glow without looking overly shiny or shimmery.

I love the fact that colors from this blush compact can be applied together or individually to create different tones, pigments and shimmering effects. When blended, the colors impart a touch of light peachy pink with a fresh, luminous finish.

Lasting Power
It has a fairly good lasting power.

Summary
I love the soft colors, light pigments and subtle shimmer in #12 Candy Orange palette. The color combination is one of the most lovely cheek colors I have ever tried. It creates a lovely peachy pink finishing touch of color that is suitable for daytime.

Compared to the blushers by Western brands, #12 Candy Orange is on the light side. Applying it with a light hand achieves a barely-there coverage with a transparent, luminous finish.

Personally, I think #12 Candy Orange is more versatile than #11 Rose Fairy (in pink variation.) Available in both warm and cool tones, the pink and orange colors coordinate well to be mixed and matched for both cool or warm skin tones.

If you have fair skin and have been thinking of trying Jill Stuart's blushers, Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact in #12 Candy Orange is definitely recommended.

Givenchy Prismissime Mat & Glow #73 Sun Caramel from Givenchy Summer 2009 Collection

Givenchy Prismissime Mat & Glow #73 Sun Caramel

Early this year, I was very intrigued by Givenchy's various face makeup products from pressed face powders, blushers to bronzers. They come in different color combinations that look soft and sophisticated. Prismissime Mat & Glow in limited-edition #73 Sun Caramel from Givenchy summer 2009 collection is my very first Givenchy face makeup item.

Prismissime Mat & Glow
Prismissime is a collection of compact powder that features nine colors for eyes or the face. The lineup includes Prismissime Eyes 9-Colors Eyeshadow, Prismissime Face & Eye Powder, Prismissime Mat & Glow, and Prismissime Compact Powder, etc.

Prismissime Mat & Glow #73 Sun Caramel features nine shades for face as a bronzer. The nine shades can be blended together or applied individually.

Givenchy Prismissime Mat & Glow #73 Sun Caramel

Color (from Left to Right)

Top row: light reddish tan, deep brown, light beige
Middle row: champagne gold, peachy gold, rose coppery bronze
Bottom row: soft tan, rosy brown, medium brown

Shimmer
The three colors in the middle row contain pearlescent shimmer, and the rest of the six colors feature very fine shimmer.

Givenchy Prismissime Mat & Glow #73 Sun Caramel

Pigmentation

The shimmery colors in the middle row and the four shades at the corners are light-pigmented. The middle colors at the top and bottom rows are pigmented.

Finish
The colors are buildable and blend well together. The pearlescent shimmer looks very intense in the pans. But it goes on soft and subtle. The shimmer adheres to the skin well, and illuminates the cheek bones nicely for an instant "firming" and "lifting-up" effect.

The shimmer in the colors from the top and bottom rows are rather refined and muted. The colors go on nearly matte.

Givenchy Prismissime Mat & Glow #73 Sun Caramel

Fragrance

#73 Sun Caramel is scented with Givenchy Radiant Blossom fragrance. The scent is lightly floral without being overpowering.

Packaging
The compact is relatively small, compared to my Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF20 #002 Honey Matte and Maquillage Face Creator 3D #22 Nuance Beige. This compact powder is in a good size for travelling.

The enclosed brush, however, is the only drawback. I found the bristles are a little too stiff. I hope the bristles could be much more thicker and fuller to make the blending application more easily.

Givenchy Prismissime Mat & Glow #73 Sun Caramel

Summary
The combination of pearlescent gold shimmer, peach, red and beige brown-hued colors gives the skin a warm yet soft result when applied with a light hand. As a few of the colors in this compact are very pigmented, the finish can get too orangey brown for my fair skin when too much amount of the shades is applied.

The texture is silky smooth, and the light floral scent is lovely. Overall, I am impressed with this 9-color bronzer. I look forward to seeing new seasonal colors of Givenchy Prismissime Mat & Glow.

Maquillage Face Creator 3D Palette in 22 Nuance Beige

Maquillage's spring 2009 collection focuses on bringing out the ideal shape of the face that most women in East and Southeast Asia achieve to have through makeup.

The star items in this collection, Eye Creator 3D, Face Creator 3D, Moisture Rouge Sheer Type and Moisture Rouge Color On Type, are created to help achieve the ideal facial proportions, with big round eyes, well-defined nose, full lips and small sculpted face.

This collection features revamped packaging designs, which looks more appealing to me than the old packaging. You can check out the swatches of this collection in this post.

Maquillage Face Creator 3D

Face Creator 3D from Maquillage's spring '09 collection is available in 11 Nuance Red, 22 Nuance Beige, 33 Nuance Coral and 44 Nuance Pink. Each palette features five coordinating shades. The refill and case for this face palette are sold separately. The one I have is 22 Nuance Beige.

Maquillage Face Creator 3D in 22 Nuance Beige

22 Nuance Beige

(Top shade) White with gold iridescent shimmer: as a highlighter shade for the upper cheek bones and bridge of nose
(Center shade) Off-white with sparse gold shimmer: as a highlighter shade for the T zone and under eyes area
(Middle right shade) Peachy with subtle gold shimmer: as a blusher shade
(Middle left shade) Beige with subtle shimmer: as a contouring color for the jaw bone, cheeks and forehead
(Bottom shade) Brown with subtle shimmer: as a contouring color for the jaw line and sides of forehead

Maquillage Face Creator 3D in 22 Nuance Beige

Texture

The texture of these powder is silky smooth. The powder is firmly pressed. So it doesn't fall off easily. All the colors are light-pigmented, which works well for me because I could slowly build up the level of intensity I desire.

Finish
Every shade in this collection contains shimmer. Overall, the shimmer of the palette is not the finest I have tried, but it is not too chunky nor too metallic.

The center shade imparts a soft gold iridescent shine when applied with a light hand. It gives a metallic sheen when overdone, however.

The top shade(highlighter shade) goes on clear with sparse gold flecks on my fairly light skin. The shimmer looks too obvious for my liking. I wish the shimmer were more refined for an effortless look. Thus, I would dust a little of matte loose face powder or powder foundation over the shimmer to make the shimmer look less noticeable.

The shimmering particles of the shading and contouring colors are subtle, and create a light, muted sheen on the face.

Lasting Power
The lasting power is fairly good.

Packaging
This face palette packaging is well-designed. The enclosed dual-ended brush, with short bristles on one end and long bristles on the other end, are very practical to use. The bristles are relatively soft. The diagonal shape brush is in good size and easy to apply.

Summary
I am satisfied with Maquillage Face Creator 3D Palette in 22 Nuance Beige. The colors work together to define the cheeks as well as the face nicely. Although I don't really like the overpowering shimmering effects of the highlighter shades, I still think the well-coordinated colors, dual-ended brush and big mirror in this compact makes it very easy to apply and travel-friendly.

Lady Dior Palettes

Lady Dior Palette in 002 French Chic

I have received a few emails asking about the color differences among Lady Dior palettes from Dior spring 2009 collection. Some of you might be also confused because of the colors. In fact, Lady Dior palette comes in three variations. Not all of them are sold in each region.

Lady Dior Palette in 002 French Chic

In the US, Lady Dior palette is available in 001 Parisienne Chic (Sephora exclusive) and 002 French Chic. Overall, 001 Parisienne Chic is more peachy-toned, while 002 French Chic is more neutral-toned. For 002, the highlighter shade has a light gold undertone, and the cheek/lip color has a brown undertone. For 001, the highlighter shade is more peachy, and the cheek/lip color is coral-toned. (You can read
my post and A Touch of Blusher's review on 002 French Chic for detailed reviews).

On the other hand, 001 Parisienne Chic and 003 French Chic are available in Asia. 003 French Chic is an Asia exclusive featuring an off-white and light pink and 001 Parisienne Chic features beige and brown-toned colors. I guess the version of 001 Parisienne Chic available in Asia is actually the version of 002 French Chic sold in US. 001 Parisienne Chic has the same colors as the global release version.

I personally think the three versions of Lady Dior palette feature beautiful nude shades of pink, peachy and beige/brown. These colors are flattering on a range of skin tones. I wish 003 French Chic were available worldwide. The off-white highlighter and cool-toned pink shade look lovely for spring.

Review on Lady Dior Palette from Dior Spring 2009 Collection

Lady Dior Palette from Dior Spring 2009 Makeup Collection

As I promised in my previous post I'd share my thought on the Lady Dior palette, here is my review on this beautiful Lady Dior palette from Dior spring 2009 makeup collection.

Packaging
The palette is cleverly designed into the shape of the famous Lady Dior Cannage handbag. It looks like a petite handbag that adds a luxurious high-fashion feel in my vanity box. Without any clip-on design, this palette can be just flipped open. Along with a mirror, it contains a highlighter and cheek/lip color.
Lady Dior Palette from Dior Spring 2009 Collection

The Lady Dior palette is made of polished silver metal hardware and faux leather. So, this couture palette is heavier to hold than regular makeup palettes. It features the classic cannage quilting in faux leather. The charms on this palette come in the capital letters of Dior. There is a silver metal chain on one side. The rounded handles of the Lady Dior makeup palette has a metal and acrylic finish.

Lady Dior Palette

In the functional aspect, I found it doesn't work too well as a key chain or bag charm as I have expected. I tried to accessorize it with my shoulder bags and totes several times. The chain is a little too long for my handbags. Furthermore, the palette is on the heavy side. It is not so practical to use it as a key chain for everyday use.

Lady Dior Palette

Texture
The highlighter shade and the cheek/lip color have a smooth and creamy texture. The highlighter has more of a soft, creamy mousse consistency, while the cheek/lip color is more like a moist creamy tint. The supple texture makes gliding and blending the colors effortless.
Lady Dior Palette

Color
The palette I have, #002 French Chic, features warm tones. The highlighter is in pale soft pink with ultra-fine multi-color shimmer, while the cheek/lip color features matte brick red. The highlighter shade has a warm nude tone and the cheek/lip color has a brown undertone. The shimmer of the highlighter is low-key yet glimmering. This is the kind of subtle shimmer I like.

Finish
The highlighter blends in smoothly, and settles in my skin easily. It looks like a pale nude pink shade in the pan, but it leaves a sheer veil of off-white shimmer on the skin. The highlighter imparts a soft iridescencent sheen on my face.

Lady Dior Palette

The cheek/lip color is well-pigmented. It does need extra work to blend in the color. It goes on sheer once it is evenly distributed. A light layer of application gives a natural-looking and flattering result for my fairly pale skin tone. With one layer, it gives a barely-there, nude contour on the apples of my cheeks and along my cheekbones. And, it achieves an understated flesh-toned result on my lips.

This cheek/lip color can be layered gradually to desired intensity. With more than one layer of application, the finish is overly red-toned on my skin. For people with medium to dark skin tones, you are suggested to gradually build this cheek/lip color to get a richer color payoff.

Lady Dior Palette

Staying Power

Overall, the highlighter and the cheek/lip colors stay put well. But to finish them with some face powder helps the colors last longer.

Bronzing Powder: Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20

I am pretty sure global warming has something to do with the hot weather. This summer has been so hot that I would rather keep a minimal makeup look at daytime. Otherwise, I can feel all the foundation and makeup just melting off through heat and humidity.

Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine Bronzing Powder

Dior has introduced Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20 with PA ++ as part of its summer 2008 makeup collection. The name obviously explains itself. It provides SPF20 sun protection against UVB rays. PA is the Japanese measurement of UVA protection. PA ranking refers to the protection that the sunscreen offers against the UVA rays. The more +'s, the more protection against UVA rays.

Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF20

I love the idea that the bronze powder adds a veil of even tan as well as sun protection to the skin. In fact, this is Dior's first bronzing powder with mineral pigments. Moreover, what makes the bronzing powder unique is it has a water-resistant formula to withstand water, tears or sweat.

Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20

I haven't found any similar products on the market yet. So, I decided to buy this bronzing powder in the shade of #002 Honey Matte (matte tan beige). The other shade available in the line is #003 Amber Matte (matte dark tan). This line has a limited range of colors at this moment. Since these products are newly-launched, let's hope Dior will provide a larger selection of this bronzing powder in the future.
Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20

Shade

The shade of Honey Matte is a matte tan beige with a light orange undertone. It is sheer and lightly-pigmented.

Texture & Finish
This powder has a velvety smooth and micro-fine texture. It goes on sheerly matte, making this powder very buildable. It evens out the skin tone and brings out the healthy-looking bronzed tone with a good sense of natural radiance to my complexion. For a medium to heavy coverage, the finish is more on the orangey side.

Close-up of Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20

Water-resistant Ability

Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine does resist the sweat fairly well. I have combination skin in warmer weather. It stays on well even on hot summer days like now (today's temperature hit 95°F). I am impressed that it doesn't streak or smudge after I spend some time outdoors. However, it slightly fades when I have heavy sweating on the T zone and the cheeks.

Oil-control
the Matte Sunshine formula contains biospheres that control shine by absorbing excessive oils. But I found it does not help much on oil control. It requires touch-ups with face powder or blotting paper to control the shine and oils on my skin throughout the day.

Packaging
Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20 comes with a velvet pouch. The compact is rather sturdy and durable. I only wish the compact came with a brush.

Summary
Overall, Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20 doesn't deliver a powdery finish. It leaves my face a velvety-matte tan with a soft translucent glow. The water-resistant formula offers a good ability to withstand sweat in hot and humid environments, making it an ideal choice for working out at gyms or staying outdoors.

New Blusher: Les Tissages de Chanel

Chanel's upcoming new limited-edition blushers, Les Tissages de Chanel Collection, are inspired by one of the enduring house icons, tweed. The collection is a tribute to tweed fabrics in Chanel fashion history. Coco (Gabrielle) Chanel translated the woven tweed into the classic style in Chanel's couture fashion since 1950s.

The blushers appear in the shape of tweed fabrics, and will be available in pink, coral, amber and red with silver or gold pearl pigments. The collection will be launched in September, 2008 and price is set at 39 euros (approximately US$61). Pricey? I think so. But this release is going to be an exciting collectible for Chanel makeup fans.
