In just a month or so, we will see the limited-edition MAC Hello Kitty Collection collaborated between MAC Cosmetics and Sanrio make its debut. This most raved about collection will be released on February 10th on the MAC website, and will be available at all MAC counters and stores in Northern America on February 12th, 2009.

This time, MAC Cosmetics invited various fashion designers around the world to design twenty couture pieces inspired by Hello Kitty, and will be presented to the world on February 5th, 2009, a week before the kickoff of the upcoming New York Fashion Week.

Part of MAC Hello Kitty Couture

The fashion designers involved in the MAC Hello Kitty couture design include Catherine Malandrino, Charlotte Ronson, Herve Leger, Kai Kuhne, Rosa Cha, Ruffian, Tadashi Shoji, The Blonds, threeasFOUR, Tibi , Vicente Villarin , Giles, Sinha Stanic, Blumarine, Dress 33, Elie Saab, Emmanuel Ungaro, Manish Arora, Bumseok Choi, Qiu Hao, Zimmerman, Kate Sylvester, and Shu Chi Huang. All the Hello Kitty-inspired couture pieces will be auctioned off on the internet. All the proceeds will be donated to related institutions to support young emerging fashion designers.

MAC Hello Kitty Collection consists of Hello Kitty Colour Collection and Hello Kitty Kouture. (Check out my earlier post for more detailed information). The images shown here belong to Hello Kitty Colour Collection:

Lipstick: 6 shades

Lipglass: 6 shades
Tinted Lip Conditioner: 2 shades

Eye Shadowx4: 2 variations
Pigment (loose color powder): 2 shades
Reflect Glitters: 2 shades

Glitter Eye Liner: 4 shades

Plush Lash mascara: 1 shade

Beauty Powder Blush: 2 shades

Beauty Powder: 2 shades
Lash: 1 set

Nail Lacquer: 3 shades

This collection also comes with beauty accessories which include:
  • petite Makeup Bag and medium Makeup Bag
  • plush doll, purse mirror and brush collection (available only at MAC stores, Nordstrom and maccosmetics.com)
  • mirrored key clip and beaded bracelet (available only at MAC stores and at maccosmetics.com)
  • tote and a soft vanity kit (exclusive to maccosmetics.com)
For more images of these beauty accessories, you can visit this Taiwanese beauty blog.

After seeing these images, I was disappointed by the packaging design and makeup colors of this collection. The main color in the packaging is MAC's typical black, while the Hello Kitty images are traced in white. And, the underlaying background of grey/white/black flowing stripes make the whole design really busy and distracting.

As to the makeup colors, other than the pink-based cheek and nail colors, the collection also incorporates hues of purple, green blue, and brown for eye and lip colors. I am just not sure if these tones can best represent the innocent, cute and adorable nature of Hello Kitty. I have to look at these colors in person before I make my final judgement.

My guess is MAC is trying to create a "naughty" version of Hello Kitty, but it seems to lose Hello Kitty's "Kawaii-ness".

Hello Jojoba,

Some of the promo images I posted on my blog don't seem to reflect the true colors accurately, especially the eyeshadows.

The eye colors in those promo images looked different than what I saw in the swatches and close-up images on other beauty blogs.

Check out this post (www.iswii.net/post/show/11472) if you are interested in the swatches and close-up images. It seems that the colors are bright and youthful.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

Cheers,

BA

I must get all two beauty powder blushes, since I love light cheek colours and they both two look so pretty! Definitely have to jump to the counter, as soon as the collection is released!

Hello Jess,

The light-colored Beauty Powder Blushes do look pretty! I am just a little disappointed by the overall packaging design. It looks less cute than I expected. But I still would like to check out this collection when it hits the stores. :)

Have a great weekend!

Cheers,

BA
