New Product: Revlon Custom Creations Foundation

Revlon Custom Creations Foundation[Photo credit: Vogue magazine February 2008]

Revlon introduced a new foundation, Revlon Custom Creations Foundation ($13.99), which is promoted on commercial ads with Jessica Alba. Revlon Custom Creations Foundation has a new concept that customers can customize the perfect shade that suits complexions all on a dial. Revlon Custom Creations Foundation has SPF 15. It is available in six color combinations: Fair/Light, Light, Light/Medium, Medium, Medium/Deep and Deep.Revlon Custom Creations Foundation

The foundation comes in a bottle with a pump and a rotating dial. The bottle has two chambers with one has a lighter shade and the other has a darker shade. Simply dial the pump to create a perfect match for the skin color. Different amount of foundation will be dispensed from each chamber depending on which number you dial. The number goes from 1 to 5, representing the lightest to the darkest shade.

I like this inventive idea that I can mix my own shades! I found the foundations I use appear to be slightly lighter than my complexion in the summer. As my skin tone change with the seasons, it is perfect that I can adjust that to match the skin tone. If you have tried this product already, I am very interested to hear what you have to say about it.

I just bought it as I was intrigued as well. I like it. It's very smooth, goes on nicely and I was able to match a shade pretty well using the medium bottle. It was worth the $14 I think.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I've spent too much money buying different shades to mix and match. Can't wait to try it.

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for commenting!

Revlon Custom Creations Foundation has a great advantage that allows customers to mix and match her own shade. I love the concept of mix- and-match all in one bottle!

Thank you for letting me know about the texture. I am glad the product has a smooth texture that goes on nicely.

I haven't had a chance to try out the product. Thank you very much for sharing!

Best,

Hi there,

Thank you for stopping by!

After the post was up, I realized that a lot more girls than I thought have the problem creating the perfect shade as seasons change. ( The foundations I own go on lighter than my complexion if I go outdoors too often in the summer.)

Let me know how you feel about this foundation if you try it. Thanks a lot for your comment!

Best,

BA

Looks and sounds promising. Only hing that confuses me is that if I am using more of the lighter shade, I will have its part of the package empty soon... with the fair amount of darker shade still in the bottle... i.e. I will need to buy a full bottle but will not be able to use it to its very end:(

Hi Pifia,

I have come across other sites that raise the same question like you do.

I do think Revlon Custom Creations Foundation has a great advantage that lets girls customize their perfect shades. When you find the correct bottle, you get to dial and test all the five shades to see which matches your complexion the best.

In certain situations, the advantage becomes a drawback. If you have a lighter, or darker skin tone, one side of foundation might run out faster than the other chamber at the end. But most of the sites I have come across still think it is fun to mix and match the shades in a bottle!

Thank you very much for posting your thoughts! :)

Like many women, I had to at least try this, and I'm glad that I did. I got a perfect color match, which is nearly impossible when shopping for drugstore cosmetics. The coverage is medium but able to be built up, which I like. I like it much, MUCH better than Almay's Smart Shade, which didn't work for me at all.

I am glad to hear that Revlon Custom Creations Foundation help you create a perfect color match to your complexion.

Do you find the problem that one side of foundation might run out faster than the other side of foundation?

I bought this make up a couple weeks ago and so far I think its AWESOME. Trying to find the right shade for me in other products was kind of scary but this was just fool proof.
I don't know a lot about foundation since this is only my second try with the stuff. A month ago I ordered Sheer Cover off the infomercial but it just didn't suit my skin type(which is prone to breakouts and oil.) The powder looked floury on my face. Anyways, a little bit goes a long way when applying it, the price is a little high (14 bucks for 1fl oz.) but I think its worth it. My skin feels smooth and natural. No irritation or streaking (so far)

ALSO- I was thinking, Revlon should start selling individual shades and sell the Custom Creations as a tester of some sort. After people find the shade that fits them, they won't have to waste make up in the different chambers. Sounds like a plan? I think so.

Hello Shelby,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with Revlon Custom Creations Foundation. I am glad you like it and it suits your skin very well without any irritation. :)

You brought up a good point that Revlon should release individual shades and sell the Custom Creations as a tester or some sort. Your idea actually reminds me of my previous experiences with drugstore brands.

I bought concealers before at drugstores. Unfortunately, the colors didn't suit my complexion. They were unable to cover up the blemishes. I only wish if drugstore brands could come up with testers for customers to try out cosmetics, especially for face products like foundation, concealer, face powder...etc.

It is kind of hard to pick up the right color by judging the color from bottles.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

I am very keen to try this, but I just thought of something... What happens if you’re not using equal amounts of each shade, and then one runs out and you still have some of the other? Like with shampoo & conditioner, but you can’t just go out and buy a refill for that shade can you? That's a bit of a waste... Maybe that's why it is so cheap? Or can you buy refills?

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for posting the comment! I am very sorry for my late reply.

In my opinion, the good thing about the Custom Creations Foundation is you get to create your shade.

For girls who have have very pale, or dark skin tones, one side of foundation in the bottle can run out faster than the other chamber.

Refill for the foundation is a very smart point! As far as I know, the Custom Creations Foundation doesn't have a refill design. I do think Revlon should think about creating refills for this foundation line.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

I like the idea, it works great, the medium coverage is good as well as the ability to mix my own shade. I have one question, prompted by the issue that was raised - one chamber finishing before the next- Can I refill the chambers using a shade from the colourstay line? It seems that the colourstay shades match up pretty well with the colours in the chambers for the medium and deep versions. Thanks.

Hi there,

Thank you for posting your comment!

Some of my readers actually had the same question that you asked. As far as I know, Revlon Custom Creations Foundation is not refillable.

I can see many people like this product for the ability to mix and match for a perfect shade. It would definitely be a great advantage if Revlon would come up with a new design that allows the consumers to refill the chambers.

I just used it for the first time and like how smooth it goes on. It doesn't feel greasy. However, I am left wondering: is this oil free? is it non-comedogenic?

Thanks,
Michelle

Anyone else having trouble with the dispenser? When I turn the dial to a number I can't get the button to go down - when I turn it to "lock" the button goes down and foundation comes out - I'm confused!
