Majolica Majorca Trick On Eyeshadow Palette

Majolica Majorca Trick On Eyeshadow Palette in GR750

As you know Majolica Majorca is a drugstore brand under Shiseido Corporation. One of Majolica Majorca's popular releases is the Trick On eyeshadow palettes, which debuted in spring 2008. The Trick On eyeshadow palette consists of four eyeshadows: one highlighting shade, one shading color, one liner shade, and a "Trick On" shimmering powder.

The Trick On palettes have gained popularity and loyalty far greater than other Majolica Majorlica eyeshadow ranges, Majolook and Line impact, due to its consistency and lasting power.

The latest addition to the Trick On range are GR750 and BR751 that were introduced this fall. They are not limited editions, however. I bought this eyeshadow palette at a Watsons store in Taipei, Taiwan. When I shopped at the drugstores in Taipei, I noticed GR750 was either out of stock or in short supply. The sales lady at Watsons told me that GR750 has been more popular than BR751.

Majolica Majorca Trick On Eyeshadow Palette in GR750

Shade
Top Left: pale pinky beige with subtle pearly shimmer
Top Right: medium-toned khaki green with iridescent shimmer
Bottom Left: dark inky blue with fine shimmer
Bottom Right: ivory with micro-fine glitter

Honestly, I wasn't intrigued by GR750 when I first saw it on the websites. I was worried if khaki green and deep blue would coordinate with each other well. I really liked it after seeing the palette in person many times. With the combination of pinky beige, khaki green, dark blue and ivory, this palette has a unique and fresh take on colors.

Texture
The eyeshadows are soft and creamy in texture, and don't fall off easily.

Pigmentation
All the shades are well-pigmented. The pale pinky beige and khaki green are medium-pigmented, while the dark inky blue and ivory are highly-pigmented. Among all, the ivory is the most pigmented.

Shimmer
The shimmering particles in this palette are very fine, subtle, and dense. They look much more shimmering or metallic in the pans than what they appear on my eyes.

The pale pinky beige and khaki green contain subtle shimmer. While the dark inky blue features fine, subdued shimmer, the ivory features intense micro-fine glitter. Overall, I am pleased that the shimmer in the eyeshadows (except the ivory shade) imparts a soft and muted feel.

Finish
What I really like about this eyeshadow palette is that it can create a subtle day look or a dramatic night look. The colors blend in very easily, and can be layered for intensity.

According to the instruction on the back of outer case, the pinky beige shade is to be used on the brow bones and the inner corner of eyes. The khaki green shade is for shading; the dark inky blue shade is for lining the eyes. The ivory shade adds a wash of color from the inner corner of eyes to the center of eyes.

However, I use the pale pinky beige as a base color to even the skin tone, and brighten up my eyes. The inky blue has a teal undertone. I was surprised to find out the khaki green and dark blue could coordinate to each other so well. When I layer the khaki green over the dark inky blue, it accentuates my eyes with a soft gradational effect.

Lasting Power
The lasting power is good. The color lasts all day with little creasing.

Packaging
Packaging design is a strength of the Trick On eyeshadow palette. It comes in a see-through plastic case with gold ornaments. I am very impressed with the durabilty of this eyeshadow palette. It is one of the most sturdy and close fitting drugstore eyeshadow cases I have ever used. The lid is secured without falling down when it is in the open position.

Majolica Majorca Trick On Eyeshadow Palette in GR750

Summary
The Majorlica Majorca Trick On eyeshadow palette costs 1,575 Japan Yen (about USD$17 ). I bought it at TWD$360 (about USD$11) at the Watsons store in Taipei, Taiwan. The price is very affordable.

I am a big fan of blue eye colors. Recently, my interest in khaki green eyeshadows have been growing and growing. The key colors, dark inky blue and khaki green, in this palette deliver a delicate, muted look with an understated, dramatic feel. The colors work together beautifully. I look forward to seeing more eyeshadow palettes from the Trick On range.

Paul & Joe Moisturizing Foundation Primer in #03 Creme

Paul & Joe Moisturizing Foundation Primer in #03 Creme

As you might already know, I am a big fan of Paul & Joe's products. Recently, I have been using their Moisturizing Foundation Primer that I bought a month ago. I have tested it in the drier fall weather in the States and the warm, humid climate in Taiwan. This is my review on Paul & Joe Moisturizing Foundation Primer in #03 Creme.

The Moisturizing Foundation Primer is part of Paul & Joe's new base makeup collection released this fall. This collection also includes Creamy Powder Compact Foundation. The previous versions of Foundation Primer and Creamy Powder Foundation are already discontinued. As far as I know, the main differences lie in the moisture level and shimmer degree. The new versions focus on a more hydrated formula, and more shimmer in various tones.

This primer is available in three shades: #01 Dragee (in pink tone), #02 Miel (in orange tone), and #03 Creme (transparent). All the shades features SPF 12 PA++ except #03. They are incorporated with Paul & Joe's proprietary Secret D’Or, "nine colored gold powder", which features select subtle gold shimmer in various tones from pink, blue, green,...etc to deliver a champagne gold shimmer that is flattering to all skin tones.

Shade
The shade I have is #03 Creme. Without any form of powder, it is a warm creamy white shade with various subtle gold shimmer. The color transforms into a clear shade as I spread it over. The shimmer is so refined that it is hard to notice once it is applied on my face.

Fragrance & Texture
The primer is scented with a fresh floral note. It has a light, soft, and moist texture. The conistency is between liquidy and creamy, but not runny. It spreads easily on my face and is absorbed into the skin very quickly. No sticky or filmy residue left behind.

Moisturization Ability
#03 Creme works like a moisturizing treatment. It leaves my face soft, hydrated and moisturized. It lasts all day long.

Finish
I am very impressed with its moisturizing ability. This primer pre-moisturizes my dry skin so well that it makes the foundation, loose powder or pressed powder adhere to my skin nicely and last longer. In other words, it helps to achieve an even application of foundation or setting powder, and a flawless finish.

In a drier climate, like the fall in the eastcoast of the US, it delivers a hydrated, radiant finish and a natural-looking sheen from the skin within. However, it can look too shiny as my T-zone tends to get oily in warm and humid weather. For those who has combination to oily skin or oily skin, I would suggest to blot off the excessive shine before applying the liquid foundation or finish the face with powder foundation/loose powder/pressed powder.

Since #03 Creme is a clear transparent shade, it does not cover the imperfections like dark circles, fine lines, freckles, and pimples on my face. It does even my skin tone and makes the pores on my cheeks appear slightly invisible. I think the nine colored gold shimmer particles in the Moisturizing Foundation Primer can reflect the light nicely to provide brightness and luminosity to my face.

Summary
I have used it for a month. I have yet to experience any breakouts so far. Noting that the Moisturizing Foundation Primer does not come with sun protection, I use it more of as a moisturizing treatment. I have a dry and sensitive skin. This primer does a good job moisturizing and further conditioning my skin for a smooth, flawless application of foundation or face powder afterwards.

MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo in Polar Opposite

MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo in Polar Opposite

MAC released the Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo as part of the Electro Flash Collection in July, 2008. The Electro Flash Collection features nine Mineralize Eye Shadow Duos in various contrast color combinations.

In fact, this is not the first time MAC Cosmetics launched the mineral eyeshadows. In 2006, the A Muse Collection released five mineral eyeshadow duos; in 2007, the Antiquitease collection featured five mineral eyeshadow duos. All of these, including the mineral eyeshadow duos from the Electro Flash Collection, came out as limited editions. I am glad MAC decided to bring back the best-selling Mineralize Eyeshadow Duos and include them in the permanent Mineral collection.

In this collection, every eyeshadow is hand baked and therefore, every Mineralize Eyeshadow Duo has different veining on the swirled side. It certainly has a sense of uniqueness.
MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo in Polar Opposite

Shade

I bought the Mineralize Eyeshadow Duo in Polar Opposite when the Electro Flash Collection was out. Polar Opposite features a mélange of dusty purple, indigo, plum, pink, champagne and silver grey on one side, a solid shade of true shimmery silver on the other side. While the monoshade of silver contains frosty and metallic shimmer, the swirled side features subtle shimmer. The color combination is really beautiful. It is such a shame that Polar Opposite isn't included in the permanent Mineral collection.

MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo in Polar Opposite

Pigment

The Mineralize Eyeshadow Duos in the Star Flash Collection are very pigmented. But I am cautious to pick up the colors little by little with a light hand. Otherwise, it will end up with colors that are too intense.

Texture
The texture is soft and smooth. It has a fluffy and powdery consistency, making it quite easy to pick up the colors with fingers. This is a plus when I am on the go.

Finish
The monoshade of shimmering silver imparts a frosty finish. If I sweep the shades on the swirled side all together, it delivers a denim purple finish with subtle shimmer. The finish is more on the blue side than red tones. This eyeshadow duo can be used wet or dry. When used wet, the finish is more pigmented and saturated.

MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo in Polar Opposite

Staying Power

I am disappointed by its staying power. The colors fall out and tend to crease at midday. On hot summer days, the colors wear off more easily. Thus, I usually use a primer under this eyeshadow duo to ensure a long-lasting effect.

Summary
I have sensitive skin, and skin around my eyes sometimes get redness and irritation. I found this Mineralize Eyeshadow Duo is gentle to the skin. It doesn't irritate my skin. Since it is a mineral-based eyeshadow, it can be removed easily with lukewarm water.

I think Polar Opposite has a unique color combination of silver, dusty purple, plum, pink and champagne. The solid silver shade can be worn alone or paired with the swirled shades. I like to use the indigo and plum as lining shades. The blend of dusty purple, pink, champagne are really beautiful shading colors. The shades are versatile and well-coordinated to create soft smoky eyes or a casual look. It is such a shame that the only downside is the lack of lasting power.
