Guerlain KissKiss Maxi Shine - Sheer Colours Volume Effect Lipstick

KissKiss Maxi Shine Sheer Colours Volume Effect

If you have been looking for a moisturizing lipstick, Guerlain lip products are a beautiful choice I'd recommend. I posted a review on KissKiss Lipstick in the shade of Pretty in Pink a while back. Today, I bring you a review on KissKiss Maxi Shine Sheer Colours Volume Effect, which is a sheer and shimmering version of Guerlain KissKiss Lipstick. The lipsticks are housed in silverstone jewel cases created by
French jewelery and furniture designer Hervé Van der Straeten.

The shades of KissKiss Maxi Shine Sheer Colours Volume Effect liptsticks that I have are #667 Fuchsia Shine and #663 Strawberry Shine. Fuchsia Shine has been discontinued, while Strawberry Shine remains available.
#667 Fuchsia Shine and #663 Strawberry Shine

Shade

Fuchsia Shine is a violet pink with a blue undertone. Strawberry Shine is a light soft pink with a coral undertone. Both contain multi-colored shimmer. Fuchsia Shine features noticeable shimmering particles, and the shimmer of Strawberry Shine is more refined and subdued.

Scent

The KissKiss Maxi Shine lipstick is scented with violets and red fruits. While this fragrance might not be the cup of tea for everyone, I personally don't find the smell bothering.
#663 Strawberry Shine

Texture
These lipsticks have an extraordinary satiny texture. It goes on so soft and smooth that it feels like a lip balm on my lips without a sticky feeling. I usually prime my lips with some lip balm before applying lipstick. The KissKiss Maxi Shine lipstick is so moisturizing that
it doesn't dry out my lips throughout the day. Sometimes I even apply the lipstick without the help of lip balm.

Finish

KissKiss Maxi Shine Sheer Colours Volume Effect has a smooth balmy consistency. Compared to the KissKiss Lipstick series, it has a sheerer and more shimmering formula.

It is layerable and buildable. A thin layer of application gives a transparent tint to my lips. With at least three layers of lipstick, I found it delivers a luminous satin coverage with deeper pigment. What I love about it is it has the pigment of lipstick, but it delivers a nice wash of color like a lip gloss, and makes my lips look slightly fuller.
#667 Fuchsia Shine

Overall, Fuchsia Shine (violet pink with shimmer) is more to the purple side on my lips. It certainly has the intensity and drama for night occasions, but the multi-colored particles are too noticeably shimmery for my taste. Strawberry Shine (light soft pink with subdued shimmer) is a good everyday lipstick for me.

Lasting Power
The KissKiss Maxi Shine lipstick has a decent staying power. When the lipstick wears off, it leaves a natural-looking stain on my lips.

#667 Fuchsia Shine and #663 Strawberry Shine

Summary
I am happy with these two lipsticks from Guerlain KissKiss Maxi Shine Sheer Colours Volume Effect. This lipstick range has the pigment of a lipstick, but it also features the sheer texture and shine of a lip gloss. Most of all, it provides long-lasting moisture to the lips. It leaves the lips feel smooth and moisturized. For people with dry lips or work long hours in air-conditioned offices, this is a good choice.

Shu Uemura Fall 2008: Instinct Fall Mode Makeup

Promotional Image of Shu Uemura Fall 2008 Makeup Collection

I have been following news about Shu Uemura fall 2008 collection. The long-awaited Shu Uemura fall 2008 collection is supposedly to be released on August 1st, 2008 in Japan. But, it is already available on their US website. On Shu Uemura's Japanese official website, there are no updates on this fall collection yet. However, some beauty websites from Japan and Taiwan reported a slightly different line-up of the collection than the one shown on Shu Uemura's US official website. The main discrepancies are limited-edition Twilight Resonance false eyelashes available in Japan, Taiwan and other Asian countries, and limited-edition Vinyl Unlimited lip glosses and Cream Eye Shadows available in Japan. I have a feeling that these items are limited to the Asia markets. I will keep you updated as I have more detailed information.

The US version of Shu Uemura fall 2008 collection includes:
Duo Eye Shadow (limited edition): 3 variations
violets, green/goldish bronze and green black/brownish bronze

Glow On (limited edition): 3 shades (reddish pink, warm pink and pale pink)
Luring Powder (limited edition)

Rouge Unlimited Crystal Shine: 2 new shades (red and beige brown)

Nail Enamel Supplement Mineral: dark wine shade with silver and gold glitters

The Instinct Fall Mode Makeup Collection focuses on smoky eye makeup, while the cheek and lip colors are kept with soft natural tones. The smoky eye look presented by the model in the promotional image is edgy, yet subtle and refined. The smoky blacks and iridescent copper bronzes of eye makeup really appeal to me. I am looking forward to trying the collection, especially the Duo Eye Shadows.

Updated on Aug 1st, 2008:

Bronzing Powder: Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20

I am pretty sure global warming has something to do with the hot weather. This summer has been so hot that I would rather keep a minimal makeup look at daytime. Otherwise, I can feel all the foundation and makeup just melting off through heat and humidity.

Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine Bronzing Powder

Dior has introduced Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20 with PA ++ as part of its summer 2008 makeup collection. The name obviously explains itself. It provides SPF20 sun protection against UVB rays. PA is the Japanese measurement of UVA protection. PA ranking refers to the protection that the sunscreen offers against the UVA rays. The more +'s, the more protection against UVA rays.

Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF20

I love the idea that the bronze powder adds a veil of even tan as well as sun protection to the skin. In fact, this is Dior's first bronzing powder with mineral pigments. Moreover, what makes the bronzing powder unique is it has a water-resistant formula to withstand water, tears or sweat.

Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20

I haven't found any similar products on the market yet. So, I decided to buy this bronzing powder in the shade of #002 Honey Matte (matte tan beige). The other shade available in the line is #003 Amber Matte (matte dark tan). This line has a limited range of colors at this moment. Since these products are newly-launched, let's hope Dior will provide a larger selection of this bronzing powder in the future.
Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20

Shade

The shade of Honey Matte is a matte tan beige with a light orange undertone. It is sheer and lightly-pigmented.

Texture & Finish
This powder has a velvety smooth and micro-fine texture. It goes on sheerly matte, making this powder very buildable. It evens out the skin tone and brings out the healthy-looking bronzed tone with a good sense of natural radiance to my complexion. For a medium to heavy coverage, the finish is more on the orangey side.

Close-up of Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20

Water-resistant Ability

Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine does resist the sweat fairly well. I have combination skin in warmer weather. It stays on well even on hot summer days like now (today's temperature hit 95°F). I am impressed that it doesn't streak or smudge after I spend some time outdoors. However, it slightly fades when I have heavy sweating on the T zone and the cheeks.

Oil-control
the Matte Sunshine formula contains biospheres that control shine by absorbing excessive oils. But I found it does not help much on oil control. It requires touch-ups with face powder or blotting paper to control the shine and oils on my skin throughout the day.

Packaging
Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20 comes with a velvet pouch. The compact is rather sturdy and durable. I only wish the compact came with a brush.

Summary
Overall, Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine SPF 20 doesn't deliver a powdery finish. It leaves my face a velvety-matte tan with a soft translucent glow. The water-resistant formula offers a good ability to withstand sweat in hot and humid environments, making it an ideal choice for working out at gyms or staying outdoors.

Guerlain Fall 2008 Makeup: Jeu de Dames Collection

Guerlain fall 2008 collection, Jeu de Dames Collection, plays with light, shades and different textures to create various looks. The eye shadow quartets are available in two variations: light and dark shades. The dark-color eyeshadow set features matte and pearlescent shades, while the light-color eyeshadow set features iridescent and sparkling shades. The eye shadows are embossed with the outline of the Jeu de Dames lady.

For fall 2008, the lip colors feature red and brown hues. They are rich and vibrant in color! Among the collection, Blush 4 Éclats Sculpting Blush has caught my attention the most. It is a new range of blushers, which feature four gradational cheek colors and are available in six color variations. I like the various color combinations. The blushers look so beautiful in the sophisticated yellow gold case.

Jeu de Dames Collection includes:
Jeu De Dames Colour Play Lip Palette (limited edition)Ombre Éclat-4 Shades Eyeshadow (limited edition): 2 variations
Blush 4 Éclats Sculpting Blush: 6 variations

Update on Paul & Joe Fall 2008 Collection

Line-up of Paul & Joe fall 2008 makeup collection

Paul & Joe has updated its official website with the limited-edition fall 2008 collection. Enjoy browsing the website!

Exceptionnel de Chanel Collection Is All About Smoky Blacks!

Most of you are already familiar with the gold-based hues of Chanel fall 2008 makeup collection. The collection has hit the shelves in the US earlier this month. I stopped by Chanel counter last week to check out the fall makeup created by Creative Director Peter Philips. It is actually a beautiful collection. But since Chanel summer 2008 collection has brought us warm bronzy shades, I wasn't thrilled with the predominantly golden tones of its fall collection. I was hoping the fall makeup would come up with some splashes of cool colors.

Chanel just launched an additional collection, namely, Exceptionnel de Chanel Collection. This collection was launched in Asia last month and is mainly deep black and pure white with beautifully coordinated colors of silver and gray. I am glad Chanel didn't disappoint me after all. The collection includes:

Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow: #93 Smoky Eyes
Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow: #69 Black Star & #70 Platine
La Ligne de CHANEL Professional Eyeliner Duo: Noir-Lame
Exceptionnel de Chanel Intense Volume And Curl Mascara:
Smoky Noir, Smoky Marine, Smoky Brun and Smoky Violine

Le Stylo Sourcils Waterproof (limited-edition release in Asia):
#10 Light Brown
, #20 Brown and #30 Grayish Brown

The collection conveys the sexy and seductive mood of early fall. The array of cool-toned shades looks beautiful. I love the color combination of black, silver and white eye makeup colors! Deep blacks give definition and depth to the eyes, and makes them appear bigger. Silver and white eye shadows add light and dimension to the eyes, making the eyes look more youthful.

According to the press release, Le Stylo Sourcils Waterproof eyebrow pencil is a limited-edition release for markets in Asia.

The collection is not available in the US at this moment except the Exceptionel de Chanel Intense Volume And Curl Mascara in Smoky Noir. I haven't seen the collection on the Chanel US and Europe websites. I am hoping this collection will be available outside Asia. To Chanel cosmetics, please don't keep us waiting too long!
