New Colors of DiorKiss Lip Gloss

DiorKiss is one of the classic lip gloss lines from Dior make-up.
On June 6th,2008, additional eight new shades will be launched to expand the family of DiorKiss in Japan. The new shades look soft and feminine. The packaging of DiorKiss from the advertisement photo looks a little different from the existing DiorKiss line. It looks like the new lip glosses are packaged in transparent tubes. The current DiorKiss line is packaged in a silver-capped clear tube, and the bottom is hued with silver.

DiorKiss has gained good reviews for its nice lip-plumping effect, glamorous shimmer, great pigmentation, and long lasting quality. It has a sheer, transparent consistency. Each shade is scented with a tasty flavor, such as peach, grapefruit, ...etc. The formula of "Wonder Booster Complex" helps add a volumizing effect. The lip glosses feature an intense level of light-catching sparkles.

Loyal fans love its non-sticky texture. On the other hand, some people still think it is too sticky. While fans enjoy the lovely scent(s) of DiorKiss, some people still find the smell to be overwhelming in a way. But I think it is a matter of personal experience for its texture and confectionery flavors.

I am still not sure if the new shades of DiorKiss will be launched in the US or other countries. I will update this post if I hear more information.

Special thanks to an anonymous reader for detailed information about the new DiorKiss. The new DiorKiss collection is called DiorKiss Luscious Lip-plumping Gloss. It has a new improved formula to create a lip-plumping effect. This reader of mine also mentioned the new DiorKiss will replace the existing DiorKiss line. The old collection is available while supplies last. The new line will be launched worldwide in coming months. The Sephora website now features the new DiorKiss collection, but it is not yet available. You can have a sneak peek of the line-up!

ck Calvin Klein Beauty Report with A Touch of Blusher

I am very excited to bring you joint reviews of the new line of Calvin Klein cosmetics, ck Calvin Klein Beauty with my fellow beauty blogger, PJ, from A Touch of Blusher. Two of us have picked up a few different products and we are hoping our joint reviews can offer you some perspectives of the new Calvin Klein cosmetics.
Calvin Klein has attempted several times to set up its cosmetics business. The first time traced back to the late 1970s. The last attempt had made the cosmetic line a short reappearance in the market in the early 2000s. The cosmetic line has remained its minimalist style just like the iconic brand image of Calvin Klein fashion design. Compared with the old line, the packaging design has transformed from transparent slim to sleek black. Although I slightly prefer the understatedly elegant style and urban zen feeling of old packaging, the new packaging design has a different vibe and reminds me a little of Chanel. The new makeup colors are still kept wearable, refined and classy. Only the comeback of Calvin Klein cosmetics, however, has a bolder take on utilizing colors and shimmer. I am going to feature a lipstick and an eye shadow that I bought from Sephora online.

Review on Tempting Glance Intense Eyeshadow in Sensuous Taupe
While browsing Sephora website, I was intrigued by a series of wearable, sophisticated colors, especially #136 Azure and #108 Olive Twist. I decided to take # 121 Sensuous Taupe instead because one of my all-time favorite eye shadow, #03 Taupe, is from the old Calvin Klein cosmetics. (Click here to see my previous review on #03 Taupe). I love this sandwash taupe eye shadow so much. I regretted I didn't stock up the eye shadows when I learned Calvin Klein cosmetics was going to discontinue its cosmetic line. I was hoping Sensuous Taupe from the new line could bring
the same excitement and freshness like the old Taupe.- Dark Taupe with Violet Undertones
Sensuous Taupe is a dark version of taupe with violet undertones. The eye shadow has ultra-fine golden shimmer. The shimmer is so refined and subdued to deliver a subtle, lively finish. It is quite a unique shade. Under outdoor lighting, it reflects a wash of golden taupe with hints of violet. When at indoors, it reflects more of a golden violet shade on my skin.

-Velvety texture
The texture is silky and velvety. I don't see my brush fly off eye shadow powder flakes easily. Encased there is a small sponge eye shadow applicator and a little square mirror. I see this is a great improvement over the eye shadow case design of the old Calvin Klein cosmetics. The only downside is the handle of the applicat
or is kind of short to hold with ease.

-Finish Look
The violet undertones soften the dark taupe hue and add a feminine feeling. But I found the violet undertones and the golden shimmer altogether seem to make my eyes look dull if I wear this eye shadow alone on a larger scale to create smoky eyes. I have to blend it with other eye colors like brown, black, or cool tone of blue to tone down the warm violet undertones. If I don't want to blend it with other colors, I will have to sport a small-scale smoky eye look with this color!

I do find this violet taupe with golden shimmer is perfect for the summer when I want to go softer with eyeliners. I love the dramatic effect with an soft and feminine touch.

Review on Delicious Luxury Crème Lipstick in Henna
-Semi-matte and Lustrous Coverage
Sephora website describes the Delicious Luxury Crème Lipstick in Henna as muted coral. It is sort of a sheer peachy coral shade, and more to the orange side. Henna has subtle reflective pigments. The shimmering particles are hard to notice from the tube, even from the finish. The lipstick is medium-pigmented and it gives a soft semi-matte, sheerly opaque coverage. When retracting with light, it adds a fuller dimension of my lips, and delivers a lustrous finish.

-Good Staying Power
The lipstick has a creamy consistency and texture I love. It goes on very smoothly as it melts right into and settles in the lips easily. I am surprised to find the lipstick is quite moisturizing and lasts well. My lips don't dry out after hours of wear.

The
Delicious Luxury Crème Lipstick in Henna has quickly won my heart! It has been added to my list of favorite lipsticks. I can see myself sporting this color for a night out on the town often!

Overall Observation
Tempting Glance Intense Eyeshadow ($16) and Delicious Luxury Crème Lipstick ($18) I bought are of good quality. With high-end quality, the prices belong to middle-price range. Even though the warm violet undertones of Sensuous Taupe eye shadow don't suit me nicely, I think it might be a great color for girls with warmer skin tones. Overall, I still enjoy the sophisticated, wearable makeup colors and good quality from the eye shadow and lipstick! I am glad Calvin Klein cosmetics has had a great comeback!

Lavshuca Summer 2008 Makeup Collection

One of the makeup collections I have been anticipating for this summer is Lavshuca cosmetics. Finally, Lavshuca summer 2008 collection will be launched on May 1, 2008. I found its spring 2008 makeup collection has lost its usual girly and dreamy take on makeup colors and packaging style. I am glad the summer collection looks cute and appealing!

Lavshuca summer '08 collection contains:
  • Limited-edition Summer Gradually Compact:#1 Shiny Sand Beach (features gold & brown) and #2 Windy Aqua Beach (features silver & blue)
  • Rouge Essence Bar: PK-4 and BE-3
With the exterior embellished with the Victorian style of motif, the eye shadow palettes look cute and sleek. Each eye shadow palette is composed of six eye shadows. The three pans on the left side emphasize luscious pearl and sparkling colors for a clear, light-refracting effect. The three pans on the right side feature a base color, shading color and lining color. Both eye shadow palettes have wearable summer shades.

Product Review: EcoTools Cosmetic Brushes and Bath Accessories

EcoTools is one of the eco-savvy lines on the market devoted to promote the green consciousness and earth-loving products. In conjunction with Earth Day (April 22), I am bringing you a review of some EcoTools cosmetic brushes and bath accessories.

Launched in March, 2008, EcoTools features a collection of makeup and bath accessories. Every detail of the collection is naturally chic:
  • Makeup brushes: the handles are made of bamboo. The brushes are made of animal-free synthetic taklon bristles. Ferrule is made from recycled aluminum.
  • Bath accessories: they are primarily made of natural plant or vegetable like ramie (a flowering plant as one of the oldest fiber crops), loofah (made from natural vegetable fibers), 100% cotton and bamboo. Bathing sponge is made from recycled plastic bottles
In addition, EcoTools will donate 1% of its annual sales to "1% For The Planet", an organization committed to leveraging their resources for a healthier planet.

EcoTools Makeup Brushes from the Left: Powder Brush, Blush Brush,
Foundation Brush, Eye Shading Brush, Eyeliner Brush, Lash & Brow Groomer

Review on EcoTools Makeup Brushes:
There are 6 sort of brushes in the EcoTools collection, including Powder Brush, Blush Brush, Foundation Brush, Angled Eyeliner Brush and last but not least, Lash & Brow Groomer. Compared with my other brushes made of natural hairs or synthetic bristles, I am amazed how soft EcoTools makeup brushes feel on skin. These bristles not only are dense and thick for picking up shades, they are also very durable. They are very easy to apply and efficient to blend colors.

EcoTools Makeup Brushes from the Right: Powder Brush, Blush Brush,
Foundation Brush, Eye Shading Brush, Eyeliner Brush and Lash & Brow Groomer

I like all of them except the Lash & Brow Groomer. Compared to other brushes in the line, the bristles of Lash & Brow Groomer are less dense. So the brush is a little too thin to work the job for my brows. Second, the bristles are a little stiff for my skin.

EcoTools Makeup Brushes

My favorite pieces from the line are Powder Brush, Blush Brush and Eye Shading Brush. I love the soft, fluffy texture the brushes feel on skin. The sizes and shapes of these bristles work efficiently setting makeup. They help deliver an even finish.

EcoTools Bath Accessories from the Right: Bamboo Foot File,
Bamboo and Loofah Facial Buffs,
Ramie Bath & Shower Mitt and Loofah & Cotton Body Buff

Review on Bath Accessories:
The Loofah & Cotton Body Buff, Ramie Bath & Shower Mitt and Bamboo Foot File do a good job exfoliating the skin. Loofah has a coarse and hard texture. I find loofah buffs feels a little too hard on my skin even after soaked wet. My skin is dry and sensitive, so I normally don't use a facial or body buff on a daily basis.

I do prefer to use Loofah & Cotton Body Buff once or twice a week for the elbows, knees and feet, and use the facial buffs to gently scrub my face in small circles once a week, prior to my moisturizing mask time. It is good to get rid of dead skin and allow facial mask to fully moisturize my skin. Ramie Bath & Shower Mitt, however, is perfect for everyday use.

Part of the EcoTools Bath Accessories

Overall, EcoTools makeup brushes are soft, pliable and easy to apply for a flawless makeup coverage. The bath accessories also work great exfoliating and cleansing the face and body. The brush accessories range from USD$2.99 to $10.99, while the bath accessories range from USD$1.99 to $5.99. The line is available at select Walgreens, Kmart and Ulta stores. The prices are a bargain! It is definitely easy going green!

Drugstore Delight: Physicians Formula Matte Collection Quad Eye Shadow

Physicians Formula Matte Collection Quad Eye Shadow
Left: Classic Nudes Right:Canyon Classics

Physicians Formula is one of my favorite drugstore brands that I like to browse at CVS. I first noticed this brand for its various blushers, bronzers and face powders. It has a broad range of colors for different skin tones. After getting familiar with the brand, I found a lot of products from this brand are hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin. I have bought several of their products and I love what I have for their good quality. Today, I am featuring two items from the Matte Collection Eye Shadow Quad.

Matte Collection Quad Eye Shadow is a series of matte neutral/nude shades. It is available in Canyon Classics, Classic Nudes and Classic Basics. I own the first two eye shadow palettes, Canyon Classics and Classic Nudes.

Physicians Formula Matte Collection Quad Eye Shadow
Left: Classic Nudes Right:Canyon Classics

The quad eye shadow contains four eye shadows: the lightest hue as a base color, the two middle tones as shading colors and the deep shade as an accent shade. The packaging style is not fancy, but it is simple and practical. Inside the silver square compact comes with a small rectangular mirror and a small dual-end brush.

The texture is soft and smooth. It goes on very easily. The color is matte, medium-pigmented and blendable. Canyon Classics is available in shades of ivory, beige, taupe and light gray. Classic Nudes features pinky white, nude, orange brown and fleshy brown. I simply love the way these eye shadows are buildable with each other for a natural-looking eye makeup. These eye shadows also go well with other eye shadow colors like blues, pinks or shimmer.

These two eyeshadow palettes have become part of my makeup staple to create casual "neutral-tones" or a nude "no makeup look"! I prefer Canyon Classic than Classic Nudes. Classic Nudes has pink/red undertones that don't suit my skin tone very well. I have to mix and match with other eye colors to decrease the red undertones.

Physicians Formula Matte Collection Quad Eye Shadow settles in the skin without smudging or creasing easily. It lasts long. The hypoallergenic formulation is a plus for sensitive skin types. I simply love the natural looking it delivers! The packaging might not be cute enough for my liking. But it offers high-end quality at inexpensive drugstore price ($6.75 each).

Chanel Summer 2008 Collection

Chanel Summer 2008 Makeup Collection has quietly arrived at counters in the US for a while. It is probably one of the few summer makeup collections that has made its US debut earlier than other cosmetics brands.

The Chanel website is finally updated with information of its Summer 2008 Makeup Collection! The collection is hued with pinks, sands, brow
ns, bronzes and khakis. As a loyal fan of Chanel cosmetics, I have already tested out the summer collection at the counter up close and personal.

The collection includes:
LUMIÈRES FACETTES Iridescent Effects Eyes

OMBRE ESSENTIELLE Soft Touch Eyeshadow

OMBRE D'EAU Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow

SOLEIL TAN DE CHANEL Moisturizing Bronzing Powder

BRONZE UNIVERSEL DE CHANEL Sun Illuminator

ROUGE HYDRABASE Creme Lipstick

ROUGE ALLURE Luminous Satin Lip Colour

AQUALUMIÈRE Sheer Colour Lipshine SPF 15

INIMITABLE WATERPROOF Mascara Multi-Dimensionnel

LE VERNIS Nail Colour

Unlike the cool blue tones of Spring 2008 Makeup Collection, Chanel Summer 2008 Makeup Collection is bronzy and warm. The star product, LUMIÈRES FACETTES Eyeshadow quad, with a combination of khaki, bronze, coral and pink shimmer is quite unique in terms of color. For me, Nail Colour in Antilope (frosted golden brown) is the most impressive piece from this collection.

The post of my first impression of this collection will be coming up soon. Stay tuned!

From a customer's point of view, part of the fun of shopping for beauty products is receiving extra free sample packages, whether they are gift-with-purchase or simply free-of-charge. From a company's sampling strategy, it is all about getting the customers to consider its products. It builds a relationship with customers, and give customers time to choose the right product(s) that works for them.

Who doesn't love beauty samples?
Sampling is the best way I get to explore new lines or products and find out something suitable for my skin type. I love beauty sample(s) for their cute miniature packaging that are convenient for use during traveling. As a makeup lover, those cute or special design sample containers become part of my makeup collection too. What about you? Do you also like to collect small sample containers?
