Dior Shimmering Corals Collection

I am particularly excited about the upcoming early summer 2008 collection from Dior! The Shimmering Corals Collection has a series of coral lip and nail colors. Coral is such a delicate color that has the softness of spring and the warmth of early summer.
The limited-edition collection will be launched on April 4, 2008 in Japan. Unfortunately, it will be exclusive to Asia. It consists of Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect (in four shades), Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick (in two shades), and Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer (in three shades).

Product Review: Ferro Cosmetics

Ferro Cosmetics is a mineral makeup company that produces its products with pure minerals and non-toxic ingredients. As a member of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, the founder of Ferro Cosmetics, Krissy Ferro, is an advocate for promoting natural cosmetics products. I has had the opportunity to try out some products from Ferro Cosmetics.

Eye Candy Mineral Shadow Powder: Champagne Eye Candy

Champagne belongs to the Eye Candy Pearl series. It is a champagne gold shade with fine silver shimmer. It imparts a white gold frosty finish on my eyes. It is a subtle color for light makeup or base color. I like to apply it as a base color over the eye lids to bring clarity, and layer up with copper and earthy brown shades for a warm sunny look.

Eye Candy Mineral Shadow Powder: February Eye Candy

February is part of the Eye Candy Shimmer series. It is a lilac eye shadow with multi-color shimmer. The multi-color particles are noticeable in the pot. At first, I was worried if the shimmer would be too glittery for my liking. But it goes on just right and not overwhelmingly sparkling. Some of the lilacs I tried before had hints of red or brown undertones, and made my eyes look dull. February is a lilac lavender shade that has more of a blue undertone. This is a lively eye shadow. A sheer layer of it has a refreshing and soft feeling. The eyes look more intense and dramatic with more layers of application. I enjoy this color very much. I can see myself using it frequently in spring and summer.

Dirt 3-N-1 Eye Candy

Dirt is a multi-purpose eye makeup powder from the 3-N-1 Eye Candy series. The series has deep and pigmented shades. So you can use them as eye shadow, eyeliner, or brow definer. Dirt is a dark brown with green shimmer. When I applied it dry, bits of powder kind of easily fell under the eyes during the eye makeup process. I prefer to apply dark eye shadow powders with moistened brushes. In this way, you have a better control to line, shade and define the eyes without leaving dark spots below the eyes.

Mineral Bronzer: Glow Baby

Glow Baby is a light nude/fleshy color with silver shimmering sparkles. The silver shimmer creates a subtle pearly sheen. Glow Baby has a very nice sheer coverage. It contours my face naturally, and imparts a soft flush on my fair skin. It is a likable everyday use kind of blusher for all seasons.

Mineral Bronzer: Autumn Kiss

Autumn Kiss is a light bronzy color with fine shimmer. It has more of a red undertone, and is pigmented. It looks more neutral brick on my skin.

Overall, their eye shadows have pretty pigments and good staying power. The mineral bronzers I have tried give me a healthy tone that looks natural.
The composition of finely-milled mineral powders and refined shimmering particles imparts a soft matte finish with pearly coverage. I am really impressed that Ferro Cosmetics offers a gorgeous array of shades for different skin tones. Have a look at the website of Ferro Cosmetics for more products and colors if you are interested to try mineral makeup and natural cosmetics!

Sneak Peek of Kesalan Patharan Summer 2008 Makeup Collection

This is a sneak peek of Kesalan Patharan Summer 2008 Makeup Collection. The Face Color N features pastel, sandy and vibrant color gradations. It is available in three color combinations and is set to be launched on April 18, 08 in Japan.

Kesalan Patharan Face Color N is a multi-purpose powder for eyes, cheeks, and the face. They usually come up with pastel, crisp and uplifting shades. In this line, trios of pink, fleshy, or earthy tones can be applied over face to create a natural effect. On the other hand, I think vibrant bright and deep color gradations are more suitable for the eye makeup. I prefer to use Face Color N trios as eye shadow. The light color is a base or highlighting color, the middle hue is for shading color, and the deep shade is for defining the eyes.

At this point, I am not sure if Face Color N is the only or part of Kesalan Patharan Summer 2008 Makeup Collection. I will update you with more details when I have more information.

MAC Beauty Powder Blush Collection: My Thoughts and My Pick!

The other day, I went to check out MAC Beauty Powder Blush Collection at a MAC store. Overall, I really enjoy the colors in this collection. All the cheek colors in the collection, from pale to intense, neutral to bright and cool to warm tones, are beautiful wearable shades. I think people with different skin tones and/or with different tastes would find something for themselves from this collection.

MAC Beauty Powder Blush Collection has a silky and velvety texture. The powders are finely-milled. The pearly shimmer is quite muted, and it deliver a subtle sheen on the face. The blushes are pigmented, especially for strong and bright shades such as Serenely, Joyous and Sweetness. I would suggest you to apply these blushes lightly.

I am going to share with you how I tried out the collection, and bring you my final pick! I classify these blushes into tones as followed:

Pinks
Sweetness is a bright pink with blue undertones, making it reflect a cool tone of bright pink on my skin.

True Romantic is a mauvey-rose pinky shade with silver shimmer. It is a beautiful mid-tone pink that suits my skin well. But, when the silver shimmer reflects with light from different angles, the shimmer overpowers the pink shade and delivers a silver sheen. The silver frosty appearance doesn't appeal to me that much.

Shy Beauty is a light apricot hue with gold shimmer. This is the least pigmented blush in the collection. It has a pale peachy pink similar to Benefit's Dandelion. Only it is peachier than Dandelion. It has the soft warm pink that is probably universally flattering for all skin types.

Pinky Coral
Joyous is a bright pinky coral with gold shimmer. The actual color looks more intense and brighter than what I saw on MAC website. Joyous has intense orange undertones and is very pigmented.

Brownish Tones
Feeling is a brownish plum shade with berry undertones. Serenely, however, is a deep brown with red undertones.

MAC Beauty Powder Blush " Eversun"

Neutral Tones
While Secret Blush is a neutral plum hue with gold shimmer, Eversun is a peachy bronze with gold shimmer. Both Secret Blush and Eversun have neutral earthy tones that look very similar to me. Secret Blush, however, has more of brown undertones and Eversun has more of orange undertones.

Close-up of MAC Beauty Powder Blush "Eversun"

My Pick - Eversun

Shy Beauty and Eversun are my favorite shades in the collection. Since I already own a few warm pink blushes such as Benifit's Dandelion and Nars Orgasm Blush, I decided to try Eversun. I am surprised to find the gold shimmer in Eversun goes on very subdued, and gives a subtle finish. Eversun is medium-pigmented. I love the bronzy peach color with a touch of gold shimmer. It is a definitely wearable and buildable blush I am going to wear during spring and summer months.

Chanel Limited-edition Highlighting Powders Duo

Many western cosmetics brands have increasingly create exclusive lines and limited-edition products for the market in Asia. In Feb 2008, Chanel launched limited-edition Highlighting Powders Duo exclusive to Asia. The pressed highlighting powder costs around USD$55.

The duo highlighter compact is composed of two face powders in white and lilac. The white shade is ideal for highlighting the forehead, browbone, cheekbone, or the chin. The lilac color is for evening out the yellowish skin undertones or dull skin. Both powders can be worn alone to highlight single spots on the face. Or, they can be mixed together and applied over the face for a luminous and bright radiance.

What makes this Highlighting Powders Duo special and become a collectible are the Chanel logo and its signature quilted design embedded in the powders. The white face powder is embedded with Chanel's overlapping double "C" letters. The lilac face powder features Chanel's signature quilted design motifs.

The classy sleek colors and packaging design of Chanel Highlighting Powders Duo really appeal to me.
I wish they created the Highlighting Powders Duo in more color combinations for its fans in other countries outside Asia.

MAC Heatherette Collection is Coming!

MAC has collaborated with the fashion designers of Heatherette, Richie Rich and Traver Rains, to create MAC Heatherette Collection. The limited-edition collection, full of pink shades, is in a 1980s style of pink plastic packaging. It was set to make its debut in MAC stores on March 27, 2008. Due to the popular demand from eager-anticipated fans, the Heatherette Collection has been changed to March 20, 2008, a week earlier than previously scheduled.

This collection includes Lipstick, Lipglass, Eye Trio, Glitter, Pigment, Dual Edge Pencil, Nail Lacquer, Beauty Powder and Lashes. I am not a fan of pink & glittering plastic packaging. But, I am intrigued by the pink shades in the collection, and planning to check it out!

DHC in the US

Since my previous post on DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, I have received many comments and email inquiries about DHC products and where to find it. So, I decided to share with you my experience with DHC in the US.

I had heard all the raves about DHC that its Deep Cleansing Oil, Lip Cream, Olive Virgin Oil, ...etc are winners in Japan. When I was in college, my roommates used to order their DHC favorites online regularly. Ever since I have started using DHC Deep Cleansing Oil last summer, I have become more and more an avid fan of DHC.

In the US, it is rather inconvenient to buy Japanese cosmetics and skincare products. Typically, buying from oversea realiable online beauty stores is the easier, but costly, way to buy products from Japanese brands. I am glad DHC is one of the few Japanese brands that markets its products globally with great success. As far as I know, it is currently available in Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, US, and UK. To sum up, DHC US makes my shopping experience so convenient with just a simple click in front of the computer.

In Japan, DHC offers everything from cosmetics, skincare, lingerie, goods, fine food, health supplements, and even medicine. However, they don't sell the same products in different countries. In the US, DHC offers only skincare, cosmetics, fine food and supplements. Please note that some skincare and makeup lines, such as the popular Rose Beauty foundation line, are not currently available in the US.

DHC Deep Cleansing is part of my daily skincare regimen. You can read my previous post for why I can not live without it. I have just begun using some of DHC facial creams, and am liking the mild textures and natural scents. I was very surprised to find out a long list of DHC products that have won lots of beauty awards in Japan over the years. Many of its products are so highly recognized by beauty magazines, and are greatly favored by customers in Japan as well as other Asian countries. DHC definitely has a great fan base across countries. Of course, I am also one of the fans and here are the reasons:
[DHC catalog April 2008 issue]

Affordable Price
First of all, the unit pricing of DHC product is less expensive compared to other Japanese department store brands. Second, most of the Japanese cosmetics on the US market double up on price but DHC doesn't. In fact, I found some DHC products sold in the US are about the same price with DHC Japan. Some are even cheaper than in Japan. For example, Deep Cleansing Oil (200ml) costs ¥2,940 Japan Yen (equals USD$28.60) in Japan while it is sold at $24 in the US. Lip Cream costs ¥735 Japan Yen (equals USD $7.16) in Japan while it is sold at $7 in the US. Olive Virgin Oil (30ml) costs ¥4725 Japan Yen (equals USD$45.97 ) in Japan while it is sold at $38 in the US.

[Every month, I receive the DHC catalog with two to four free samples attached]

Every month, DHC has a page of sale items on both of its website and catalog. Different monthly sales are promoted in different countries where DHC is available. I like to browse the sales section from time to time for products that I like with bargain price. Products on sales are likely including popular items. (I still remember I have a "$10 off on next purchase of $50 or more" coupon at home :)

[DHC packet samples I have received in the past six months]

DHC has a generous take on giving their customers (or prospects) samples to try. In every order, either online or mail-in order, the package comes with four packet size samples. The sample selections are not limited to a few categories or unpopular products, but are open to its categories from head to toe. After my first purchase with DHC online, they put me in their mailing list and sending me monthly catalog by mail ( I can unsubscribe at anytime I want). Every month, I also receive two to four free samples in the catalog. Free sample is a step for me to test out DHC products before I buy.

Friendly Customer Service
I rely on the internet to do shopping with DHC US. The website is user-friendly. Product information on the website is clear and helpful, and it is easy to browse by category.

I am probably the one who is quite picky on package wrapping and handling. From my previous shopping experiences, it is not DHC style for elaborate package decoration, but I love the way my receipt was printed clear and folded nicely along in the package. I can see my package was wrapped and handled with care. It probably has something to do with the Japanese style of customer service. They focus on satisfying customers' needs. I am glad to see DHC executes its friendly customer service so well even overseas.

MAC Beauty Powder Blush Collection is Available Now!

MAC Beauty Powder Blush Collection is now available at MAC website. Eight shades of the collection range from blue pink, various peach tones with gold pearly shimmer , various plums with silver or gold pearly shimmer and deep brownish red.

At this point, I am quite interested in Shy Beauty (Pastel apricot with gold pearl), Joyous (Peach with gold pearl) and Eversun (Neutral peach bronze with gold pearl). I am also curious to see how the Beauty Powder Blush Collection is compared to the existing the Powder Blush line. Have any cheek color from the collection drawn your attention?

Product Review: Thymes Red Cherie Home Fragrance Mist

I was given a great opportunity to review Red Cherie Home Fragrance Mist (3 oz for $18 )by Thymes. Red Cherie Home Fragrance Mist is a part of Thymes Red Cherie Collection, which includes products from head to toe. The collection contains fragrances of pomegranate, ripe red cherries, passion flower, jasmine with hints of of Asian lychee and fruity musk.
I especially like to spray the home fragrance mist over my house in midday to freshen up the stuffy air and stale atmosphere. At the beginning, it smells too sweet for my liking, but the sweet sense of notes is probably good for people who love sweet and girly scents. After ten minutes or so, the sweet notes become more fruity and lighter. As soon as the air is infused with the fruity floral aroma, I like the way it leaves the house lightly scented, fresh and clean. Overall, it is a light fruity and floral home fragrance that has a spring-like and summery feeling. It is available online at the Thymes website.

Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Body Serum

After the success of Restore & Renew Beauty Serum in 2007, Boots has launched Protect & Perfect line, expanded from the Beauty Serum to Day Cream, Night Cream, Eye Cream, Body Serum, and Anti-Aging Serum for Men. The Protect & Perfect line is formulated with age defying ingredients to repair the signs of aging, even out skin tone, and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles for younger, firmer and luminous skin.

On my previous post about Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Line, I mentioned it is possible that the day cream, night cream and eye cream from the line will hit the shelves in the US this coming fall. However, Protect & Perfect Body Serum ($24.99) already is the newbie available at Target stores in the US. It was out on the market in UK back in October, 2007. Boots Body Serum claims to promote a firmer appearance, and restore luminous skin in four weeks.

Restore & Renew Beauty Serum is for use under a facial moisturizer while the body serum (200 ml for $24.99) is intended to be applied solo. Most of the reviews I have come across conclude that the Body Serum is richer than the texture of Beauty Serum, but it goes on smooth and refines the skin texture noticeably. However, the opinions on whether the Body Serum delivers a positive effect on lessening fine lines vary.

I notice Body Serum is not featured on the Target website at this point. Have any of you spotted this new product at Target store yet?
